[DSDN 111 Project 3 2015]
Joint
Your final project of the trimester, The Joint, will entail the creation of an abstract, tectonic, multi-material object inclusive of two physical actions based on a bodily joint. Potential joints include the elbow, jaw, hip, or ankle. The design of the form will progress through a process of exploration and iteration, beginning with conducting research on your joint followed by the production of diagrams that explore it’s potential actions. These diagrams will provide a starting point for the generation of your form. It is important to remember that you should not imitate or mimic the form of the joint: Your design intention will entail capturing the gesture of the action(s) and to translate these abstractly into the design of your form. Unlike in Project Two, this form will actually entail moving parts. Your final form should strive to be a unique and playful, yet highly designed object.
